John Steven Smith, beloved father, grandfather, and brother, transitioned to eternity quickly and peacefully on April 18, 2024, at his favorite place on Earth, a family ranch in Bedias, Texas. Born on December 31, 1954, Johnny led a full life of happiness and unwavering devotion to his family.
Johnny leaves behind a legacy of unconditional love, honesty, and integrity. He was a consistent and supportive father to his three children and their spouses, Tiffany Hoffpauir and Kenny, Joshua Smith and Katie, and Jacob Smith and Ashley, and an energetic and fun loving grandpa to his four grandchildren, Katheryn Merriwether, Jace Merriwether, Kaylee Smith, and Caleb Smith.
Until the moment he passed, Johnny was a picture of life, always creating, building, learning, and working. He found joy in tending to his cattle, tinkering with his Harley, perfecting his smoked brisket, and following his grandkids' hobbies.
Though he was strong willed and stubborn at times, he also had an enormous heart and wonderful sense of humor. His infectious laugh and quick wit will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Johnny loved the Lord and has undoubtedly been reconciled with his parents in heaven, Robert Lee "Bob" Smith and Gwen Smith. He is survived by his brother, Patrick Smith and his sisters, Mona Cannon and Melonie Harrell. He loved them and their families deeply, and held a special place in his heart for each member of his extended family, the Gardners, and the Milligans.
A celebration of Johnny's life will be held on Friday, May 3, at Metcalf Funeral Directors. Visitation with family and friends will begin at 10:00 a.m. with a service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will at East Sandy Cemetery in New Waverly.
