John Warner Powell

John was born in Conroe, TX on May 4th, 1939. He graduated from Conroe High School in 1957. He then enlisted in the United State Navy and later became a Merchant Seaman. John continued his education and received a Bachelor of Science from Sam Houston State University. After 35 years with the Texas Department of Human Services he retired in 1995.

John was married to Kaye on July 22nd, 1976; they were happily married 46 years.

His hobbies and passions included watercolor painting, little league coach, trips to Big Bend National Park and the mountains, camping and floating the Guadalupe river, playing chess with friends, Montgomery County BBQ cookoff team, watching boxing and a complete love for wildlife and animals.

John is survived by his wife, Kaye Powell, daughter Ivy Powell Brown, son Robert Powell and wife Renee, son Toney Powell, daughter Kathy Murphy, sister Linda Jones and spouse Kenneth, several nieces and nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

John is preceded in death by his father Robert A. Powell, mother Maydell Powell Watson, stepfather Ed Watson and sister Robbie Powell Stack.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 8, 2023, at the Conroe Country Club from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
