Joan Julia McCarthy Warren was born in Newark, New Jersey on October 2, 1950 to father Francis and mother Anne. Joan passed away on August 18, 2021. She is survived by her brother, Patrick; sister, Ellen; and several family members including nephews and nieces.
Growing up in Newark, Joan was recognized at an early age as a free spirit and someone who easily made friends. She was always a good student and strong a proponent for education. After graduating college from then Glassboro State College, Joan went on to become a probation officer for the City of Newark. Around 1982, Joan, ever-brimming with adventure and a life-long pursuit of knowledge and new experiences, took to the road with her best friend, Mary Joan Salerno, bound for Houston, Texas. Not long after moving to Houston, Joan met the man who would become the indisputable love of her life and eventual husband, Robert (Bob) Lee Warren, deceased. Joan and Bob were halves of one heart and soul, felt by all who had the pleasure to have known them. A few years later, Joan and Bob moved to Port St. Lucie, FL, where they made many great friends and graciously hosted many family members over the years. Near their home in Port St. Lucie, Joan became an elementary and middle school teacher, a profession well-suited for her passion for learning and sharing knowledge with curious minds. Joan was a natural teacher; her students loved her no matter which grade she taught or in which state she taught in. In the early 2000s, Joan and Bob decided to move back to Texas, to a lovely little town, named Conroe.
There, Joan continued teaching young minds, where her unique approach and passion earned much respect and adoration. Throughout her career, parents, teachers, and colleagues have always lauded Joan as the kids’ favorite teacher. Joan was widely known to challenge her students from the very start of each school year by declaring that she was a Loquacious Prevaricator! – impressing the importance of vocabulary and independent, critical thinking. She empowered her students through literature and stories, as she attempted with everyone she met, to envision paths for overcoming life challenges. Joan was loved deeply by family and friends and she impacted pretty much everyone in one way or another. She and Bob were avid animal lovers, especially for their numerous beautiful dogs over the years, survived by Pirate, who is now finding a loving home with friends.
A memorial visitation for Joan will be held Monday, August 23, 2021 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Cashner Funeral Home, 801 Teas Road, Conroe, Texas 77303.
