Janie Margaret Garrison Parker was born April 11, 1929, went to her eternal resting place on April 5, 2024, at the age of 94 years old, 6 days shy of her 95th birthday. She was born in Eldridge, Tennessee to Nola Mae Hughey and Charlie Lee Garrison. She was the youngest of 9 children all born at home.
She quit school in 7th grade to help raise her siblings’ children while they worked. She worked picking cotton, fruit, and vegetables to help support the family. As a young teenage she became a waitress working 72 hours a week making only $12 a week.
She met the love of her life Ruth Edward Parker in 1948 and married in 1949. She had her daughter Sherry Jane in 1950 and was unable to have any more children until her son Richard Parker was born in 1957. Then they all moved to Victoria Texas looking for work. To help support her family, she worked as a waitress at the Holiday Inn.
She lost her daughter Sherry to cancer in 1979 at 29 years old, 6 years later she lost her husband Ed to heart attack in 1985. Afterwards she moved to Huntsville to live closer to her son Richard.
Her love for baseball and fishing was shared with her husband Ed. She loved to share stories of her life as a child and young adult. She was the best cook and loved to share her cooking with everyone.
Janie is preceded in death by her husband, Ruth Edward Parker; Daughter, Sherry Jane Parker Neely; her parents, Charlie and Nola Garrison; all of her brothers, Malcom, Nathan, Lofton, Jim, and Ross; and her sisters, Moji, Dorothy, and Ruby.
She is survived by her son, Richard Parker and wife, Kimberly Parker; Grandchildren, Jason Neely, Linda Bratton, Danny Bratton, Eric Teel wife, Jenifer, and Sarah Teel; Great Grandchildren, Reyna Cleofas, Angelica Cleofas, Dominik Teel and adopted grand daughter, Kaylie Cudd; and many nieces and nephews in Tennessee.
A visitation for Janie will be held Thursday, April 11, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Metcalf Funeral Directors, 1801 East White Oak Terrace, Conroe, Texas 77304 followed by a celebration of life at 1:00 PM. A graveside service will occur Saturday, April 13, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 8819 US-87, Victoria, Texas 77904.
