James Edward Everett was born April 13, 1951 in Livingston, Texas to Robert Edward Everett and Dorothy Jean Jordan. He peacefully passed away July 4th, 2021 at his home in Conroe, Texas at the age of 70.
James is survived by his wife, Shirley of 47 years and his children Sheri Everett of Beaumont, Tonya Hudson and husband Jason of Corpus Christi and James Ryan Everett of Conroe. Grandchildren Lance Moody, Logan Moody, ENS Clay Hudson, USN, Jamie Moody, Rebecca Hudson, Pierce Everett and Cole Hudson. One great-grandchild, Ava Moody. Also survived by sister, Charlene Everitt, brother Thomas Everett, brother Howard and wife Sherrie Salge, sister Alicea Johnson and uncle, Charles Dodd. Mother-in-law Melba Rose, Father-in-law Charles Davenport and wife Margaret, sisters-in-law Judy Runnels, Lisa and husband Bruce Merryman, Lorna and husband Troy Gardner and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother Dorothy, father Robert and step-mom Gladys Everett, son Michael Edward Everett, brother Larry Ballard and sister Jeanette Burton.
James enjoyed and excelled as an athlete in his high school sports but it was in baseball where he was most gifted. He shared that gift years later, coaching young girls the art of the game. After graduating from Shepherd High School in 1969, he was drafted into the U.S. Army to serve a tour in Vietnam. He was injured there and finished his service in Oklahoma. He then returned to Conroe, Texas to resume his career at the local phone company as a lineman and retired 38 years later as an Engineer.
James led a simple yet full life. He stayed busy before and after his retirement and could always be found at the deer lease, his favorite fishing spot or working on one of his many projects. Working the garden was where he found a lot of joy and always shared the fruits of his labors. His specialty became his tomatoes and his salsa recipe became the best this side of the Mississippi.
If he heard someone was in the hospital or stuck at home he was the first to show up with a silly story, a coke, some good-natured ribbing or just be there to listen. And, he couldn’t just walk into the room and call you by your name… it was always bird brain, wormy or one of his many other silly nicknames. This spirit of generosity and helping others came natural to him as did his faith in God. His search for knowledge and understanding The Word never stopped and he shared this love with his children and grandchildren.
Over the years, James shared all he knew about hunting, fishing, gardening and cooking with anyone that would listen. His stories were endless and more often than not, hilarious and at someone else’s expense… sometimes his own! To the men who became his brothers, We appreciate all you have done and been for him.
Visitation will be held Thursday, July 8, 2021 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Cashner Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 9, 2021 at 2:00pm in Cashner Colonial Chapel with burial following in Garden Park Cemetery.
