Jacquelyn Lucretia Causey, 72, returned to her heavenly home on February 18, 2019 after a valiant battle with COPD. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her in her struggle and ultimately gave her peace.
Jacquelyn was born to the late Emanuel and Donna Belger, an army veteran and postal worker, and a homemaker respectively, in Grand Rapids, MI on November 7, 1946. She was immersed in the Christian community that would be her lifelong support. In the early 80’s Jacquelyn relocated to Flint, MI in search of a better life for herself and her children. It was during this time that she attended Mott Community College and earned an Associate’s Degree in Nursing.
Jacquelyn was blessed with a loving family and many friends who became family. She married twice, first to Fredrick Lee Elton, and years later to the now late Thomas Causey. During Jacquelyn’s life she cared very much for her family. At one point she even moved across the country to support her daughter in North Carolina, helped raise her youngest grandchild, Camrie, and her home was always a safe haven for the rest of her grandchildren.
Jacquelyn was a care-giver at heart. She was kind and soft-spoken, and always had time to give of herself. She served as a Candy Striper at Butterworth Hospital, and as a Dialysis Nurse at Hurley Medical Center. During her career, she also worked at both Heartland and Heritage Manors, where her patients and co-workers often admired her delicate and genuine care. One of her last and most fulfilling assignments was in-home Critical Nursing for Nariah, an infant who suffered complex breathing issues. Jacquelyn took great pride in contributing to the healing and progress of others. Her career represents great fortitude and her legacy of building a family of trained medical professionals.
Jacquelyn is survived by her daughters, Melody (Lenny) and Danielle; her sister, Deborah; her grandchildren, Jacquelyn (Mervin), Lynetta, Daquindre, Lenny Jr. (Leticia), Lucquin, and Camrie; her great-grandchildren Laila, Damon, and Julias; and her nephew, Jimmy; and close life-long friends, Lila, Janie, Louis, Jackie, Joyce and Gene, Penny, Mary Lou, and Christine. She is preceded in death by her parents.
A memorial service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, March 9, 2019, at Green House International Church, Houston, Texas. Pastor E.A. Deckard will officiate the service. Flowers are welcome at Cashner Funeral Home in Conroe, TX. The family has designated Feed The Children (www.feedthechildren.org) for memorial contributions.
