Mary Irma Thompson Cherry, age 91, died March 14, 2011, in Conroe, Texas. She was born December 14, 1919, in Austin, Texas, to George Eleck Thompson and Mary Geneva Jenkins. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Texas in 1943, and her masters from The University of Houston in 1963. Irma married Raymond Birl Cherry in 1942. She taught 3rd grade in the Santa Fe School Distruct for 24 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dickinson, Texas for many years. she was a member of the First Baptist Church in Sweeny, Texas, then the First Baptist Church in Conroe, Texas. She was Worthy Martron of the Eastern Star in Dickinson, Texas. Later in life, she was a member of the Sweeny chapter. Irma was pre-deceased by her husband, Raymond Cherry; her son, Kim Cherry; and her son-in-law, Don Yarborough. She is survived by her children, Meryl Robin Cherry Yarborough, and Wrynne Chandler Cherry (wife Jennifer). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Amy Yarborough Milian, Julie Yarborough Corne (husband Louis), Ginger Beth Yarborough Helen (husband Adrian), Bart Yarborough, Bryan Cherry (wife Sarah), Emily Cherry Rother (husband Dean); and great grandchildren, Victoria, Elizabeth, Stephen and Katherine Milian, Charles, Marie, and Jane Corne, Samuel and Andrew Cherry, and Quincy, Mithell and John Rother. Graveside funeral services will be held Thursday, March 17, 2011, at Galveston Memorial Park Cemetery in Hitchcock, Texas, at 1 p.m. Chaplain John Price, of Sweeny, Texas, will be officiating. Pallbearers will be Stephen Milian, Louis Corne, Adrian Helen, Bryan Cherry, Dean Rother, and Mike Cherry. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to World Vision, at worldvision.org.
