Harry passed away February 2, 2022 after a lengthy illness. He was born January 3, 1934, in Lancaster, PA to Grace and Harry Peacock Sr. Harry was preceded in death by his parents, son Louis and sister Joyce. He is survived by his sons, Robert and Earl, and daughters Victoria and Jennifer, sister Charmaine Ross, brother Craig and long time companion, Betty Britt, grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. After graduating from Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA with a Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering, Harry demonstrated great engineering skill and as a result was involved in a multitude of very successful Defense Department and NASA programs. He received several awards, citations and medals for his contributions to these extremely important national projects.
Harry had a love of nature and being outdoors. He had huge gardens and many fruit trees at his home. He lived in Pennsylvania and California during his working years and retired to April Sound in Montgomery in 2004. There his love of gardening, his planning and electrical skills had the opportunity to meld and he became very active beautifying the parks and common areas as a volunteer, starting with installing sprinklers in lots of areas that were lacking them. Many a resident saw him out and about working on sprinklers, clearing brush and planting bushes, trees and plants until he was about 85 years old. In one large undeveloped area in April Sound, he removed dead foliage, cleared brush, planted trees, installed irrigation and erected playground equipment that families enjoy to this day. The area was named PEACOCK PARK in his honor. He was “proud as a peacock” of this recognition.
In addition to his many visible agricultural accomplishments, Harry was also extremely generous, helping friends and family both financially and with his time. Many of those in his family were blessed by his generosity in times of need, helping out young ones with college tuition donations and just general help with moving, wiring, plumbing, construction and so on. He was truly a doer of things, not an observer.
A service will be held at the April Sound Church on Tuesday, February 8, at 11 AM.
Donations may be made to The April Sound Church Helping Hands, or the charity of your choice.
