Grace Ann Cartwright Nowlin

Grace Ann Cartwright Nowlin, 88, of Montgomery, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2020. She was born on August 18, 1931, in Montgomery, Texas to William and Nancy Cartwright. Grace graduated from Montgomery High School on May 23, 1949. She received her Bachelor of Science on January 20, 1961 and her Master of Education August 23, 1963. She received her Texas Teacher Certificate and taught High School Homemaking, Art, Vocational Homemaking, and Vocational Homemaking Education.

Above all Grace loved children, cooking fish and dogs. She was a kind sweet woman who did many good things in her life. She taught school for 29 years in Dime Box, Utopia, and Mercedes, Texas. While teaching in Mercedes she helped repair and fit clothing to many of the children who went to school there. Many of these children came across the bridge each morning to come to school in Mercedes. She really loved swimming and fishing and while there, did those things often.

She was preceded in death by her parents. Grace is survived by her loving nieces Nancy Cartwright Ashworth, Jo Nell Brown, Lois Ann Rasberry, Evelyn Rasberry, Debbie Frierson, Terry Lynn Cartwright and Sherry Lynn Cartwright; nephews Larry Burl Cartwright, William Pete Cartwright (Bimbo), Phillip Joey Cartwright and a host of family and friends. Funeral services for Grace will be Monday, January 27, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Metcalf Funeral Directors, with the family receiving friends one hour prior. Interment will follow at Cartwright Cemetery in Montgomery, Texas.
