Bunny was a lifelong resident of Montgomery County, living most of her life in Conroe. She graduated from Willis High School in 1938, moving to Houston for a short time thereafter where she attended business school and worked for Shell Oil. Bunny moved back to Conroe in 1940 working for the Griffin Abstract Company in the Montgomery County Clerk’s Office. From 1954, to 1966, she worked for Dr. Melvin Hutchins, and then for the Conroe Independent School District as a clerk in the tax office and finance department, retiring from the CISD with 29 years of service. During her 55 years of employment, she met, greeted, and served countless Montgomery County residents and businesses establishing friendships with many people throughout the County.. At the same time, she was a devoted wife and mother.
She joined the Park Memorial Baptist Church in Houston Feb 11th, 1940. In April 1958, Bunny moved her letter to the First Baptist Church of Conroe, where she attended faithfully for 54 years, greeting the members and her many friends at the Sunday morning service for the past 15 years.
Most of her retirement years were spent serving her Church and spending time with her family and friends, traveling with church members, cooking, and taking special interest in her grandchildren. With a sharp memory for detail, many researchers called on her for her recollections of Montgomery County events, individuals, and families. When asked recently about her experiences, she said “I thank God for the memories of all those wonderful days.”
