Dixie was born on April 16, 1946 in Conroe, TX. When she was young, her family relocated to Kansas City, KS. A good student who excelled in math, she also earned the Girl Scout Curved Bar Award (highest level) in 1960. She graduated from Shawnee Mission North High School in 1964 and matriculated to Kansas State University, where she met and married Steve Reedy (deceased).
They moved to Cloud County, KS in 1966 and Dixie worked part-time as a bookkeeper while raising three children. In 1972, the family moved to North Carolina, where she lived for many years (interspersed with a long stretch of living in Houston, TX). Dixie returned to school and completed her nursing degree, then worked as a Registered Nurse in home health care and hospice. She was a loving mother, excellent nurse, Girl Scout troop leader, community volunteer, and generous friend.
Dixie was also a long-time member of Eastern Star and a former Matron, with current affiliation to Chapter 731. She enjoyed reading and genealogy, and traced her family roots back many generations. She relished her work as an election judge and cherished relationships with extended family in and around Montgomery County, TX. She was a great baker–her brownies were legendary! Dixie and her cousin Barbara were very active, enjoying many adventures and cross-country trips with their two Papillon dogs.
Survivors include her children, Deborah Mark (Eugene) of Bethesda, MD, Donna Reedy (Rodney Stewart) of Godwin, NC, and Douglas Reedy (Elisiev) of Sheridan, MT; grandchildren, Bethany Owen (Robby), Savannah Howard, Kassidy Cottle (Michael), Kathleen Mark, Josephine Mark, James Reedy, Eirik Reedy, and Alexander Reedy; great-grandchildren, Landen Owen and Bailey, Adalyn, and Layla Cottle; siblings, Edward Turner (Lonna) of Houston, TX and Linda Turner Cato of San Jose, CA; her dearest friend and cousin, Barbara Poole; numerous extended family, and close friends. Dixie was preceded in death by her parents, Jimmie Blain and Marie (née Carr) Turner.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, www.scottishriteforchildren.org.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.metcalffuneraldirectors.com for the Turner family.
