Carol’s life was fairly simple by today's standards, but while it was happening it was quite remarkable. She preferred to stand on her own two feet. With just a high school education, she had a successful 40 year career in the Federal government. Beginning in the 1960's as a clerk, she was promoted time and time again throughout her career. She achieved a high-level management role in the 1990's, standing shoulder to shoulder with a peer group of men, most of whom had advanced college degrees. In her last role writing legal decisions for Social Security Disability cases, she stood in a group full of master’s degree’ d professionals and attorneys. Her capacity far outstretched her education, and she proved it over and over again. She would never call herself a trailblazer, but she will be remembered exactly that way.
Carol married Richard Eldred at 28, late for the era when most girls married their high school or college sweethearts. They were married for 46 years, mostly happy with peaks and valleys, as you would expect. Despite her troubled childhood, she made a happy home. She was a hard-working mom who managed the household, cooked, and made time for paperwork on evenings and Sunday afternoons. She was a woman whose best friend was her husband and a woman without a verbal filter, but who never told a lie.
A celebration of Carol’s life will be held on Friday, July 24, 2020, at 2:00pm at Cashner Funeral Home in Conroe, Texas. The service will be livestreamed on Facebook via Cashner Funeral Home Facebook page.
