Robert William Campbell, M.D. passed away on Sunday, April 15, 2018 at Conroe Regional Medical Center after a lengthy illness. A respected doctor, devoted husband and father and a devote Catholic. He lived life to the fullest. Bill was born on Sept. 4, 1941 in Port Huron, Michigan to Colin and Marybelle (Stein) Campbell and attended Marysville High School where he played sports. After graduation, he earned his Associate Degree and joined the U.S. Army. Shortly after enlisting, Bill married his wife of 55 years and had two sons. In 1968, Bill graduated from Saint Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas with a Bachelor of Arts degree and continued on to earn a medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center. Upon graduation, Bill returned to active duty and led his family on a world tour that started with his internship and residency at William Beaumont Army Medical Hospital in El Paso, Texas.
After being discharged from the Army as a major, Bill relocated to Conroe where he had a successful medical practice. Few activities gave him more pleasure than helping families bring their new family member into the world. At his retirement in June 2005, Bill had delivered over 7,200 babies in a career that lasted 31 years. He experienced true joy in watching those children and their parents grow as part of the community he loved. While Bill enjoyed his vocation as a doctor, he also loved the outdoors. As an avid fly fisherman, Bill tied his own flies and spent countless hours on rivers, streams, and bays. His trips took Bill from the Arctic Circle to Central America. In addition, Bill loved to hunt dove in South Texas with his close-knit group of compadres. Dr. Campbell is survived by his loving wife, Yolanda, his two sons, Jim (Diane) of Traverse City, Michigan and Doug (Susan) of San Antonio, Texas, and grandchildren Cameron Campbell, Connor Campbell , Katie Campbell, and Sarah Campbell.
