Evelyn was born to Leo and Jenny (Hendrix) Madden in Hyden, Kentucky on May 29, 1944. She attended schools in Hyden, graduating from the Lilly High School. She was a Qualified Medication Aide (Q.M.A.) for many years providing professional services to residents of several area nursing homes. She retired from Maugers (CRF First Choice) in 2009, where she provided personal care and companionship to the residents. She married Charles ‘Bill’ York on December 2, 1990 in Connersville. She attended Calvary Baptist Church. She enjoyed watching classic western movies and game shows. She liked to sew and crochet. She also enjoyed entertaining visitors. Her biggest joy in life came from her family, especially her son and husband whom she loved very much. She will be greatly missed by all that know and love her.
Evelyn is survived by her husband of thirty-one years, Bill York of Connersville; her son: Joe (wife Beth) Lewis, of Connersville; step-son: Charles Coleman York of Connersville; honorary daughter: Dorothy Troop, of Batesville; four grandchildren: Danika (husband Josh) Sherwood, Tyler York, Amanda Burchell, Laci Yarbor; eight great-grandchildren: Caleb Grimes, Kendrick Perry, Abby Perry, Emili Marsh, Kati Marsh, Cohen York, Keilyn Sherwood and Kenlan Sherwood; four great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Evelyn was preceded in death by four sisters: Lorraine Browning, Christine Browning, Eileen Browning and Opal Martin; as well as three brothers: Elmer Madden, Wilmar ‘Slick’ Madden and John Anderson “J.A.” Madden.
Funeral Services will be conducted on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville, with Reverend Donnie Browning presiding. Friends may visit at the funeral home Monday, November 8, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Burial will take place at Village Creek Cemetery following the funeral service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fayette County Cancer Society in honor of Evelyn.
