A Connersville native, Darrell was born August 3, 1954 to Everett, Sr. and Loretta Delaney Harris. He was a 1973 graduate of Connersville High School and began working as a truck driver with the Fayette County Highway Department following graduation. Darrell retired as a heavy equipment operator in 2009 following “thirty-six years of faithful service.” He attended Everton Southern Baptist Church and liked to hunt, fish and watch the Game Show Network. Darrell cherished the time he spent with his family and grandchildren and was commonly known as a practical joker.
Darrell is survived by his wife, the former Carletta J. Hill whom he married October 13, 1979 at the East Side United Methodist Church in Connersville; his daughters and their spouses: Jennifer L. Ellison and Donnie, Tiffany R. Kirkland and Grover, all of Maryville, Tennessee; his Mother: Loretta Roszell of Connersville; his siblings and their spouses: Everett W. Harris, Jr. of Connersville; Faye Shipley and Randy of Fayette County; Ronnie Harris and Glenna, Robert Roszell, Jr. and Paula, all of Connersville; Charlie Roszell of Jacksonville; Becky Stewart and Arlis of Connersville; grandchildren: Katelyn, Jacob, Isaiah Friend; Elias and Harlynn Ellison; Zoey and McKinzie Kirkland; several nieces and nephews.
Darrel was preceded in death by his father, his step-father: R. Earl Roszell, Sr.; brother: Danny Joe Roszell, Sr. and four grandchildren in heaven..
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home with Rev. Freddie Helton of the Everton Southern Baptist Church officiating. Cremation will follow. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday where memorial contributions may be made to the Rush Memorial Hospice.
