James R. Tharp

James R. Tharp, 88 of Valley Cottage, NY passed away at home on May 21st. James was born in Astoria, NY on December 1, 1921. He served as a Corporal in the U.S. army Air Corp during World War II. He worked for the Dept. of Labor in New York City for over 30 years and after retiring he worked for Tomorrows Workplace in Spring Valley for over a decade. James was married to his beloved wife Helen for 58 yrs. who predeceased him in 2005. He was an avid golfer and was a member of the Rockland Valley Golf Association for many years. James is survived by his daughter Gerri Lott of Orlando Florida, and his son James E. Tharp and wife Mitzi of Valley Cottage, NY. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Paul Weihs and Alexandra and Alyssa Tharp and his great grand child Michael J. Weihs. The family will receive friends on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Michael J. Higgins F.S. in Congers, NY. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11 am in St. Paul's R.C. Church in Congers with burial to follow in the Frederick Loescher Rockland County Veterans Cemetery in New Hempstead, NY. Donations in James name may be made to the Congers/Valley Cottage Ambulance Corp.
