Pandora (Phillips) Hamel Martel of Concord, NH passed away on March 15, 2024 at the Granite VNA Hospice House in Concord, after a long illness. She was 90 years old. Pandora was born on January 20, 1934 in Alexandria, NH. She was the seventh child of Freeman S. Phillips and Christabel C. Phillips.
Pandora began her schooling in a one room schoolhouse in Alexandria and went on to attend schools in Bristol and Malden, MA. At the age of seventy-seven, she completed courses at Concord High School to receive her diploma. It was a joyous occasion for her and her family!
She is survived by her daughters, Nancy (David) Siff of Concord and Emily (Alan) Weaver of TN; grandchildren Jonathan (Jennifer) Siff, Jennifer Siff, Naomi, Christopher and Matthew Weaver, Stefan and Tasha Skotnicki; great grandchildren Rowan and Powell Siff, Christopher and Everett Aavatsmark, Lily Walters, Emily and Camille Weaver, Joseph Zervas; great great granddaughter Leanna Aavatsmark; sister Isabell Westgate; brother-in-law Wayne (Audrey) Hamel; and many, many treasured nieces, nephews and friends.
Pandora was predeceased by her first husband, Edward Hamel, and her second husband, Ovila Martel; daughter Pandora Skotnicki; granddaughter Quinley Siff; her brothers Earl, Freeman, Woodbury, and Willard Phillips and William Babb; sisters Wanita Goodell, Winona Strobridge, Ann Simpson, Julia Tasker, Diane Hodgeman, two infant siblings; brother-in-laws Gordon Westgate,Bill Simpson, Milt Tasker, Felix Hamel and several dear nephews.
Pandora was born, and proud to be, a “country girl”. She loved the outdoors, gardening, canning, cooking, quilting and crafting. She was recognized for her volunteer work at Dame School with the “Champion for Children” Award. She was an active member of South Church.
Her family wishes to extend their profound gratitude to the Granite VNA for the loving care they provided. She is loved and treasured by her family and will forever remain in their hearts.
Her funeral service will be held on April 6 at 11:00 AM, South Congregational Church in Concord, 27 Pleasant Street. Burial will be at a later date. Bennett Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Flowers are welcomed or donations can be made in her memory to Granite VNA or South Church.
