He was born in Winthrop, MA., the son of Joseph and Mary Dwelley on April 7, 1927. He attended school in Winthrop and graduated from Groveland High School in Groveland, Massachusetts.
Joseph enlisted in the US Army and retired from the service in 1968, holding the rank of Sergeant Major. Joe loved his God and his country. He was married to Mary (Jinny) for 61 years. She was the love of his life.
After retiring from the army, he became Army Junior ROTC instructor at Gloucester High School in Gloucester, Massachusetts. Later he became an employee for the State of New Hampshire as a Management Analyst for 20 years, retiring in 1989. Joseph was active in community affairs, a Life Member and Past President of the Community Players of Concord and Past President of the Community Concert Association. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, a member of the American Legion and a member of the Cursillo in the Diocese of New Hampshire. Joseph was a communicant of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church and was a Eucharist Minister and a lector for several years.
He was predeceased by two sons, Joseph and Robert.
Joseph leaves his wife Mary Dwelley of Concord and several sisters-in-law.
Calling hours will be held from 7PM to 9PM on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at the Bennett Funeral Home, 209 North Main Street, Concord. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30AM on Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 180 Loudon Road, Concord. Burial will follow at 2PM at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway, Boscawen, NH.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 180 Loudon Road, Concord, NH 03301.
