Helen Louise Hutchins

Helen Louise Hutchins, 96, of Concord, passed away peacefully at home while surrounded by her family on Monday, December 19, 2022. Born on July 8, 1926 in Laconia, NH, she was the daughter of the late William and Mary (Ellis) Sanborn.

Helen grew up in Laconia and was diagnosed at an early age with visual impairments. With the dedicated help and encouragement from teachers she graduated from Laconia High School in 1944. She took a one year business course at Becker Junior College, and then enrolled in the Musical Education course at Houghton College in New York, however after 2-1/2 years Helen had to unfortunately leave her studies. Helen never let her visual impairment stop her from having a successful career, she received aids which allowed her to perform her job efficiently and independently as a transcriber and Word Processor Specialist for Blue Cross Blue Shield.

At the age of fifteen, she accepted Jesus Christ into her life in which he was a constant guide making crooked paths straight in her life. During her years, she spent time singing in church choirs, teaching Sunday school, and serving on Youth and Missionary Committees. For over 30 years, she had been very active in the National Federation of the Blind of New Hampshire by serving on committees and held office on both the local and state levels. She was awarded the Henry J. VanVliet Memorial Award in recognition of her years of services and efforts to help her fellow blind.

Helen is survived by many loving nieces, nephews and friends. She is predeceased by her husband of 47 loving years John W. Hutchins.

A Visitation will be held from 10am to 11am on Thursday, December 29 at CenterPoint Church located at 20 N. State St, Concord NH with a Funeral Service beginning at 11am. Burial to immediately follow at Blossom Hill Cemetery located at 207 N. State St, Concord NH.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be offered in Helen’s memory to Meals on Wheels.
