WEARE- Gregory Carl Begin, 56, passed away on Thursday, September 29, 2016 surrounded by his close family. He was born in Waterville, Maine on June 15, 1960, the son of Carl and Kay Begin. He moved to West Lebanon, New Hampshire in 1968. After graduating from Lebanon High School in 1978 Greg went on to attend Westfield State College. Shortly after returning from college, Greg reunited with his high school sweetheart, Beth Smith, and the two were married in 1983.
Greg was employed by the Lebanon, NH Police Department in 1981. He attended and proudly graduated from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia in 1991. In 2000 after 19 years with the Lebanon Police Department and attaining the rank of Captain, Greg accepted the position of Chief of Police in the Town of New Boston, NH. He worked for the New Boston Police Department until being elected the Chief of Police for the Town of Weare, NH Police Department in 2005.
Greg retired from his law enforcement career in 2013 after nearly 32 years of service to the State of New Hampshire. Following his retirement Greg continued to serve his community by teaching police officers how to be DARE instructors in their local schools while also working at the Grappone Automotive Group. Greg’s passion was in service to others and throughout his retirement his friends and colleagues with the DARE program and Grappone acted as his second family.
When Greg came home from work he was always a dedicated family man and enjoyed spending time with his wife and kids. He would spend all of his free time with his family going camping, taking long drives, coaching and following his children’s sporting events.
Greg’s family members include his wife, Beth; daughter, Kaitlin Begin of Derry, NH; son, Kristopher Begin of NH; parents, Carl and Kay Begin of Estero, FL; sisters, Michelle Begin-Soule of White River Junction, VT and Kristina and her husband Eric Brann of Plainfield, NH; brother, Peter and his wife Tammy Begin of West, Lebanon, NH and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held at Bennett Funeral Home, 209 N. Main St. Concord on Wed. Oct. 5 from 5pm to 8pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at Christ the King Parish, 72 S. Main St. Concord on Thurs. Oct. 6 at 10am followed by a private burial for immediate family only.
