She was the widow of George N. Geers, who died on the same day in 2010.
She was born in Farmington, the daughter of Ethel (McCullough) and Malcolm Young. She was delivered at her grandfather’s farm by her aunt, and nurse, Lillian and uncle Dr. John Peacock of Providence, R.I.
She grew up in Rochester and moved to Northwood in her teens. She was co-valedictorian of her class at Coe-Brown Northwood Academy and attended the University of New Hampshire.
One summer during World War II she was burning webworms and started a fire. At a time when manpower was low, the fire truck was driven by a teenager. It was the beginning of their life together. Upon George’s return from the war and graduation from Wentworth Institute in Boston, they married and moved to Concord.
Elizabeth was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and its Martha’s Circle. Through her years she was a den mother, kindergarten teacher and coordinator of the Opportunities While Learning (OWL) program at Conant School.
She is survived by her son George L. Geers of Concord and two granddaughters, Kelly and her children, Riley, Jack and Ben, and Susan and her daughter Lola, all of Sturbridge, Mass. She is survived by several nieces and nephews and cousins – the Geers, Burrows, Deelys, Youngs, Guptills and Brewsters – and many cherished friends and neighbors.
She was predeceased by her husband George Nils Geers, son Lawrence, brother John Young, sister Lillian Deely and two daughters-in-law, Sharon (Daley) Geers and Merideth MacLeod.
A memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 15, at Wesley United Methodist Church 79 Clinton Street Concord, NH. Donations in her memory can be made to Granite VNA (www.granitevna.org) and Coe-Brown Academy (www.coebrown.org/giving).
