Audrey was a lovely lady who always made everyone feel special and loved. I was a neighbor and a friend.  Bruce, Beth, & Elise...please know that I am thinking of you in this very difficult time.

From a talk at Fay last June:

"Audrey Gardner's art room in the basement of the Old Main building was a safe haven and refuge. In it, one's imagination was free to roam beyond the confines of campus. Looking back, I believe this is where the Art & Architecture bug really bit me hard. And so it is that the memory of that art room -- its colors, its smells, its textures -- that sometimes comes flooding back when we design a museum, an artist's center, a complex for the arts. Seemingly small seeds do indeed grow into trees."

To the Gardners, deepest sympathies and prayers. Beth, your Mom was a gift -- and her profound offering forever changed the course of one life across the seas. Thank you Audrey.

I often remember the sacred space that Mrs. Gardner held for us St. Mark's Fac. Brats. Her home always had an open door, a warm welcoming smile and she lent compassionate ear to each of us. She touched many of us at Fay in just the same way ~ allowing us to express our unique selves through art. 
Thank you so much for sharing the precious pictures of her life. 
Sending her and the family much love and light as she grows her wings.

What a wonderful woman and artist. We had the pleasure of meeting her several times during the past 10 years, invited into her home where she very humbly showed us her great artwork. We ended up buying several pieces during our visits. You will be missed, but also remembered fondly every time we look at one of your creations. Goodbye, Audrey.

Audrey Gardner was a lady.  Her students at Fay truly loved her.  When I think of Audrey I see her with a big smile, paint and colored chalk all  over her, and children all around.  My deepest condolences to her family.  Cathy Logan

Mrs. Gardner was a beacon at Fay School.  Even those of us who couldn't draw or sculpt were encouraged; she could always find something positive to praise.  My condolences to the family.

Audrey was always happy to see me, and was especially kind to my children.  I always appreciated that about her.

I was fortunate to be one of Mrs. Gardner's Fay School art students. Her obvious passion for art and love of teaching fostered a life long appreciation for art within me. I'll never forget the day she brought ginkgo leaves into class for us to see, touch, and draw. To this day I think of her whenever I see a ginkgo.

What a beautiful life, well lived! While at Fay School '78, Mrs. Gardner gave me permission to see art in my own special way. I could be as messy and colorful as possible on the outside one minute, then the next minute dark and hidden in my thoughts. She was all about giving me the freedom to be me, mistakes and all! I loved walking through the art doors whenever I could. I loved her.
