Allan Conrad Bloomquist, son of the late Walter and Loretta Bloomquist, passed away on September 18, 2021. He passed away at the age of 78, after a brief battle with cancer. Allan is survived by his wife Elizabeth Whiting Bloomquist; his three children Julie Doman (Kurt), Laura Kavanaugh (Thomas), Andrew Bloomquist; and his six grandchildren Hannah Doman, Matthew Doman, Emilia Doman, Thomas Kavanaugh Jr., Sean Kavanaugh and Kiera Kavanaugh.
Allan was born on July 25, 1943, in Schenectady, NY. As a child, Allan had many interests including boy scouts, sports and he was inseparable from his older brother, Douglas. He graduated from Radnor High School in Wayne, PA, class of 1961. He continued his undergraduate education at Middlebury College in Vermont, earning a BA in Economics. Allan later received his MBA at Harvard Business School in Boston. Allan valued education and enjoyed teaching others as an adjunct professor at Notre Dame, Indiana University South Bend, and Johns Hopkins. Allan’s career was primarily banking-related, specifically in strategic planning, marketing and business banking data. Allan also served our country as a US Army first lieutenant in the Vietnam War as a Harbor Master in Saigon.
Allan and Mary Taillon Bloomquist were married in 1968, and brought up their three children in South Bend, IN. Through these years, Allan enjoyed spending time with family and friends, rooting for Notre Dame, and was a self-proclaimed “mediocre” racquetball player.
Allan married Elizabeth on August 21, 1993 and they have loved living in New Hampshire close to family and enjoying summers on Squam Lake and Lake Sunapee. After Allan retired, he pursued other interests, including taking up skiing at the age of 55, painting and becoming an avid fisherman.
Allan was an incredible man and his infectious smile, sense of humor and, most significantly, his kind heart will be missed. Grandpa was always his grandchildren’s biggest fan.
A Calling hour will be held on Monday, September 27, 2021 at 11am, with a Chapel Service starting at 12pm at Bennett Funeral Home, 209 North Main Street, Concord, NH 03301. Burial will immediately follow, at 2pm at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery ,110 Daniel Webster Highway, Boscawen, NH 03303.
