William Samuel "Sam" Blackstone, almost 85, passed away unexpectedly on October 13, 2024, in Columbus, OH. Born on October 20, 1939 Sam led a life marked by dedication to his family, church, and community. He joins in death his parents; former wife Genevieve (Petro) Blackstone and brother Tom Blackstone. He leaves behind his wife Marilyn (See) Blackstone; children Cindy (Jim) Jackson, Tracey (Seth) Golding, Roger (Cora) Farish, Jan (John) Fowler, Chris Fultz, Tamra Brooks and Jason Brandeburg. Also surviving are 19 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and sister Sara Lukens. Sam graduated from McClain High School in Greenfield, Ohio. He retired from Town and Village Insurance Company and subsequently enjoyed nearly 25 years filled with family, volunteer work, travel, ushering at many CAPA events, reading, gardening, baseball games, amateur theater, and all the many activities that he and Marilyn enjoyed, including supporting the grandchildren’s activities. An avid and competitive shuffleboard player and golfer, Sam also dedicated much of his time to Glenwood United Methodist Church. He was known for his love of family and his ability to captivate everyone with his humor, theatrics, playfulness, and engaging stories using just the right words and unusual facts. He could talk about any subject with any person with his photographic memory, listening ear, and clever use of words like none other. He always left a get together with sincere goodbyes of affection, love and gratitude. Sam’s life was a testament to others by always showing up, leaving an example of a strong work ethic to his children, always being on time and keeping commitments, being honest, fair and encouraging, and being loyal to those he loved. His memory will be cherished and kept alive by the humor he shared and the example of a life well lived from youth through his senior years. He will be greatly missed. But we look forward to the smile we will see again in Heaven.Visitation will be held on Friday Oct. 18, 2024 from 11AM to 12PM at Glenwood United Methodist Church, 2833 Valleyview Dr, Columbus, OH 43204 where the funeral service will begin at 12PM.
