Shirley was born on February 1, 1941 in Columbus, Ohio and is preceded in death by her beloved parents Adam and Minnie Mertz, her daughter Kimberly Ann Mertz, cousin Georgie Ruzicka and her favorite cousin and person Jim (Shag) Kirchner.
Shirley led the meeting planner department for Nationwide for 45 years until retiring to go on to become a professional lunch goer. Outside of her family, her true love was The Ohio State Football team. Anyone who knew her has a story involving a tailgate or a game. Her devotion to being a Buckeye was unmatched.
Shirley was proud of her efficiency and devoted work ethic and her amazing friendships.
Shirley was an incredible and loving mother, grandmother, and friend; She cherished every friendship she ever made whether it was her high school cheerleaders, her nationwide contacts and coworkers or her life long best friends. Her family appreciates anyone that enriched Shirley’s life and supplied her with the many, many stories she would tell.
Shirley is survived by her loving grandson, Justin Mertz, cousins Lisa Kirchner, Kim and Mike Carter, Jim Kirchner and sons Cole and Tyler, Paul and Donna Mincer, Sharon Crane, Linda Pianalto and special friends Nancy Geer, Diane Geswein, Lena Pigg and Alexis Trivonavich.
Visitation will take place on Monday, November 20, 2023 at Advantage by Schoedinger North, 5554 Karl Road from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 5:00pm to 7:00pm. A funeral will be held on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at 10:00am with Pastor Dominic Mejia officiating.
