Robert Ewald Sinclair

Robert Ewald Sinclair, M.D., passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Thursday, November 30, 2017 in Olathe, KS. Robert was born January 19, 1924 in Columbus, OH to George A. Sinclair and Bertha F. Ewald. Robert Sinclair graduated from West High School, Class of 1941. He served as Senior Class President and in 2004 was admitted into the West High’s Hall of Fame. He attended Ohio Wesleyan University and served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946. On March 31, 1945, he married Mary Almira Underwood (West H. S., class of 1942). He graduated from The Ohio State University in fall of 1948; where we was a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity and Nu Sigma Nu medical fraternity. He graduated from The Ohio State University, College of Medicine in June, 1952; serving as President of the Senior Medical Class. Bob practiced medicine in private practice, corporate medicine, and university health care facilities at major universities including Denison University, University of Cincinnati, Kansas State University, and University of Alabama. He served as team physician for all sports at Denison University, University of Cincinnati, and Kansas State University. In the college health field, he served as: President of the Ohio College Health Associations (1964); President of the Central College Health Association (1972); President of the Southern College Health Association (1986). He served a term as Alumni President of the Ohio State chapter of Nu Sigma Nu. He was a member of Kiwanis and Rotary International Clubs in Ohio, Kansas and Alabama. From age 15, when he became a member of the American Federation of Musicians, he periodically performed professionally as a drummer in big band and jazz groups in central Ohio, Chicago, Kansas and Alabama. For the past 24 years, he performed with the Dixie Downbeats, a 7-piece Dixieland jazz band. He is preceded in death by Mary, his wife, of 69 years. Surviving family members include daughters Marcia Grauerholz, her husband Marcus of Olathe, KS and Bonnie Andrews and her husband Bruce of Parker, CO, 5 grandchildren, Jesselyn Neufeld and husband Ryan of Mooresville, NC, Zachary Grauerholz and his wife Tina of Olathe, KS, Robert Parker and his wife Stacy of Golden, CO, Charles Parker of Golden, CO and Liz Felix and husband Justin of Spanaway, WA and 3 great grandchildren; Henry Neufeld and Ronen Neufeld of Mooresville, NC and August Parker of Golden, CO. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Humane Society of West Alabama (of Tuscaloosa, AL) or the Olathe Health Hospice House (of Olathe, KS). A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at Hope & Heart Funeral Home by Schoedinger, 3030 West Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio 43204 where friends will be received after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday; interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery.
