Robert Andrew Patterson, age 97, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 7, 2022. Bob grew up on a farm in Holmes County, Ohio. He worked alongside his parents raising crops and livestock. Bob loved every aspect of farming, especially taking care of his horses. The land they farmed and the family life he shared with his parents, brother, grandparents, and great-grandparents, provided the foundation for Bob's love of family, love of country, and strong faith. He carried those values throughout his life and nurtured them in his own children.
Bob attended Killbuck High School where he met the love of his life, Frances Bush, and received his high school diploma. Bob enlisted in the Navy and served honorably in WWII as part of the Naval Amphibious Forces in the Pacific Theater. In 1944, Bob and Frances were married. After starting their family, Bob took a job with Buckeye Pipeline Co. which led them to their home in Lima, Ohio. Following his retirement, Bob and Fran spent time in their Florida home, traveled to Alaska, visited friends and family, and then settled for the remainder of their years in Columbus, Ohio, near children and grandchildren. They had 67 years together, four children, seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild! What an amazing life they had!
Bob was determined, hard-working, disciplined, and wise. He "never met a stranger" and made a point of connecting with others. Bob loved to tell stories of past times with family and friends, and he loved a good audience. He lived a simple life and was grateful for all the kindnesses this life offered him. Bob was loyal, humble, and, simply put, a good man who was loved by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Bob is survived by his daughter, Connie Morrison and son-in-law, Stephen Morrison; daughter, Cheryl Riegel and son-in-law, Larry Riegel; son, Robert Patterson and daughter-in-law, Barbara Patterson; daughter, Cindy Fox and son-in-law Bruce Fox; grandchildren, Stephanie Morrison Birch, Cassie Riegel Friedman, Lauren Patterson Schmidt, Lindsey Patterson, April Fox Vacchiano, and Justin Fox; great-grandchildren Kiera Morrison, Nicolas Walker, Maxwell Friedman, Lucas Friedman, Olivia Friedman, Everly Williams, Ellie Schmidt, Alexander Vacchiano, Annabella Vacchiano, Ava Vacchiano, Grace Fox, Kate Fox, and Bree Fox; great-great-granddaughter Scarlett Walker; and sister-in-law, Carol Patterson.
Bob was preceded in death by his loving wife, Frances Bush Patterson; parents, Nellie Roskopf Patterson and Owen Patterson; brother, Richard Patterson; grandson, Shawn Morrison; and great-granddaughter, Addison Vacchiano.
The family would like to thank Capital Health Caregivers, Timi Ademodi, Lambert Wanyam, and Cynthia Owusu Boateng, for the special care and love they gave Bob during his last years of life.
