Robert Edward Bauer, Sr., died at the age of 101 on March 20, 2016 in Columbus, Ohio. Bob was the son of August and 'LuLu' (nee Schroth) Bauer. He was born on February 1, 1915, in North College Hill, Ohio. Bob was a graduate of The Ohio State University College of Engineering. He married Ida Louise Moloney on March 12, 1941. Bob was a Captain in the United States Army during World War II and was awarded five battle stars. While in service Captain Bauer's assignments varied from courier in North Africa, to retrieval and maintenance of tanks in Africa, Italy, France and Germany. As a mechanical engineer, Bob's professional career spanned the age of aviation from early commercial planes to jet fighters and the LEM (lunar excursion module). He was employed by Curtis-Wright, North American Aviation, McDonnell Douglas, Bell Aerospace Systems and Boeing Aircraft. He is survived by: his daughter, Patric Mary O'Brien (Greg); his son, Robert E. Bauer, Jr (Jean); his grandchildren, Blaize O'Brien (Autumn), Honor O'Brien, Vaughan O'Brien (Kim), Julie Archer (John), Leslie Bauer, Caroline Chang (Henry); and his great grandchildren, Campbell Atchison; Maeve, Brigid, Teague, Taryn and Mackenzie O'Brien; Charles, Amelia and Mae Archer; Phillip and Lydia Chang; and by dozens of nephews, nieces and cousins. He was predeceased by: his beloved wife of 67 years, Ida; his parents; his sister, Irma Grimm; and his brother, Arthur Bauer. Special thanks to the wonderful caregivers from Comfort Keepers, Wesley Glen, and Ohio Health Hospice. Graveside service will be held 2PM on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at St. Mary's Cemetery, 426 S. Sandusky St, Delaware, Ohio 43015. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ohio Health Hospice, PO BOX 600001, Columbus, Ohio 43272.
