Richard J Bull

Richard J. “Dick” Bull, age 92 of Upper Arlington, passed away Thursday, November 7, 2024 from on-going complications of Covid. Private services for family will be held at Schoedinger Northwest Chapel and burial to follow at Greenlawn Cemetery on Thursday, December 26, 2024.

Dick was born December 6, 1931, the only child of Ivan and Marie (Miller) Bull and raised in Bexley. He graduated from Bexley High School in 1949 where he captained the Golf team. In March 1957, he married the love of his life, Ruth Ann Maneely at Bexley Methodist Church.

He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Civil Engineering from The Ohio State University. He served with the US Army Corp of Engineers at Fort Belvoir, Virginia during the Korean conflict. He then joined the firm that would become Bird + Bull Consulting Engineers and Surveyors. The firm worked with many prominent architects on land development and building projects, including The Rhodes State Office Tower, The Wexner Center for the Arts, Knowlton Hall, and Lincoln & Morrill Towers. In retirement, he enjoyed serving as a greeter for Schoedinger.

Dick was a proud Freemason, having been involved in DeMolay in his youth and receiving the honor and distinction of the 33rd degree. He was a long-time member of Riverside United Methodist Church, Brookside Country Club (where he enjoyed many years of tennis), and Columbus Maennerchor.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Ann and eldest son, Joe. He is survived by three sons: Rick (Carol), Kaitlyn and Evan (Courtney)—great-grandchild Cooper of Delaware, Ohio; Tim (Laura), Jaclyn and Wesley of Boca Raton, Florida; and Dave (Maggie), Audrey and Ian of Upper Arlington. He is also survived by sister-in-law Nancy Haines (Mel) of Kettering, Ohio; a nephew Doug Haines (Colleen), Conner and Caroline of Centerville, Ohio; a niece Julie Charlton (Andy) of Centerville, Ohio.

Private family services will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Central Ohio Diabetes Association, c/o LifeCare Alliance, 1699 West Mound Street, Columbus, Ohio 43223.
