Philip R. Cassone, age 81 of Columbus, Ohio passed away peacefully on Saturday night, October 5, 2024, at the Kobacker Hospice House, who graciously took him and provided the highest quality of comfort care as Phil came to end of his fight with cancer.
He was born on April 12, 1943, in White Plains, New York, to the late Rocco and Edith Cassone. Phil graduated from Portchester High School in 1961. While there he participated in several sports, including football, golf, and bowling. He went on to attend Pace University before being drafted, and proudly served his Country in the U.S. Army. Throughout his military service, he earned the National Defense Service Medal, Sharpshooter Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was honorably discharged on October 1, 1967. He remained a staunch patriot, and loved his Country and all it stands for. One of his favorite memories occurred when he attended the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. on October 7, 2021. “Being there to honor all those men and women who served our Country makes me very proud.”
To Phil, it was always about everyone else, and never himself. He loved to care for others, and was selfless to a fault. While he had a passion for golf and bowling, it was his love for family and food that motivated him on a daily basis. When he wasn’t playing with his grandchildren or sharing their meals with them, he was cooking his mother’s famous meatballs. Phil never turned down a home cooked meal, regardless of whose home he was in. Phil’s motto was “it is nice to be nice,” and he lived that every day in trying to make all those around him smile.
Those left to cherish his memory include his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Brandi Cassone, and their children – Vito, Rocco, Enzo, Carmella, and Maria; and his step-sons and children, Scott Miller and Drew, and David Dobson and Kade.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Gerald Cassone.
