Michael Henry Igoe, much beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and friend will long be remembered by those who knew him. Michael passed away comfortably at the Kobacker House on December 18, 2022, following a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born September 1, 1950, in Columbus, Ohio, to the late John D. Igoe and Mary V. Igoe. Michael grew up in Upper Arlington alongside his five siblings: Mary, Daniel, J. Kevin, Maggi, and Cecilia. Michael went to St. Agatha School, before attending Bishop Watterson High School where he graduated in 1968. He then proudly continued the family tradition of attending the University of Notre Dame. Michael followed his father John, ND '28, brother Daniel, ND '65, brother J. Kevin ND '67, and he graduated with the ND class of 1972. He continued to be a devout supporter of all things Notre Dame for the rest of his life. If you were to ask any of his many friends or family members, “Who's the biggest Notre Dame fan you know?” Most if not, all would reply with a slight chuckle and say, “Mike Igoe.” After leaving South Bend, he attended the University of Toledo College of Law, where he graduated in 1975. He started out his legal career at the Columbus City Attorney's Office. It was here by an uncharacteristic stroke of good luck (as he would say) was fortunate enough to meet his soon to be wife, Cynthia. He would move over to Carlile Patchen & Murphy LLP., where he would soon become a partner. He loved the uncertainties and pressures of being a trial lawyer and excelled every step along the way. He would later tell his family that he was undefeated as a trial lawyer, but the family is still looking to confirm his record =). He was later recognized as a qualified attorney and counsellor for the Supreme Court of United States in 1984. He was also given the commission of Kentucky Colonel for his work in the Commonwealth in 2002. After spending decades with the firm and having been made Special Counsel to the Ohio Attorney General, he decided to start his own business. In 2006 and still Special Counsel, he was given the opportunity to operate a collections business for the State of Ohio. He, alongside his son Kiel as manager, ran the business from 2006 until he was finally able to retire and sell the business earlier this year. But not before being named central Ohio Top Lawyer by Columbus CEO Magazine in 2017. Michael was always an avid sportsman. He was happiest cheering on and always critiquing his sons on the lacrosse field. His son Colin, who followed in his footsteps attending the University of Notre Dame, also played lacrosse for the school, and his son Conor, who played lacrosse as well at the division I level at the University of Jacksonville. Michael is survived by his wife of 41 years, Cynthia Goff Igoe, and their three children: Kiel Igoe, Colin Igoe (ND '10), and Conor Igoe, as well as his prior two sons: Michael Igoe, and Joseph Igoe. Siblings and in-laws: Mary Igoe Meyers, Maggie Igoe Corna, Cecilia Igoe Galbraith, Mary Patricia “Patty” Igoe, Patricia L. Igoe; daughters in-law: Kathleen Igoe, Chonticha S. Igoe, and Cindy Igoe; five grandchildren: Emily Igoe, Jennifer Igoe, Reilly Igoe, Regan Igoe, Emmit Igoe; and 19 nieces and nephews. Michael is preceded in death by his parents, John D. Igoe and Mary V. Igoe; brothers Daniel Igoe, and J. Kevin Igoe; and brother in-law, Richard Meyers. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 29, 2022, at Worthington Hills Country Club, 920 Clubview Blvd. S, Columbus, OH 43235.
