Mary Cormican Martin passed away at Doctors Hospital, Columbus, Ohio, early Wednesday morning, January 6, 2016, two weeks shy of her 71st birthday. She was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, to the late Russell and Ivy (Bunnell) Cormican of Miamitown, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her sister, Cherie Cormican. She is survived by her husband, V. Paul Kramer; sons and daughters-in-law, Matthew and Una Martin, Monte and Marisol Martin; son, Karsten Kramer and daughter, Kristin Kramer; grandchildren Felix Martin, Arlo Martin and Tessa Kramer; her brother and sister-in-law, Russell and Mary Cormican; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Pam Larue, Elizabeth and Kurt Kolheffer, Kim and Peter Hofstra. Mary earned a BS degree at Texas Christian University, an MA at The College of the Holy Names in Spokane, WA; M DIV at Brite Divinity School, TCU, and a MS at Kent State University. She was an ordained minister in the Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, having pastored congregations in Spokane, WA, West Palm Beach, FL, Archer City, TX, Bucyrus and North Royalton, OH. She served as a geriatric psychotherapist at the Canton Christian Home, Canton, OH. She worked as a hospital chaplain at Deaconess Hospital, Spokane, WA and served as a hospice chaplain in West Palm Beach, FL, and Crawford County, OH, after assisting in the foundation of hospice chapters in those two areas. Mary was also a member of the inaugural group of Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA) in 1965. She also played an integral part in helping her husband, Paul, in his company, Vince Kramer Associates, a manufacturers' sales representative group in the inspirational gift industry. All of these accomplishments, in addition to the birth of her children, were attained in the years following her diagnosis with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis at the age of 22, a disease which eventually took its toll, forcing her premature retirement and, ultimately, her untimely death. Mary was an avid reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles and Sudoku. She especially enjoyed time with her grandchildren, reading, coloring and playing games, particularly dominoes and chess. One of her most unusual endeavors was to take the daily obituaries section of the newspaper and to quietly ponder the lives laid out on the pages before her and pray for the families of the deceased. Family will receive friends from 1-3 PM on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at the SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Road, Upper Arlington, Ohio 43221, where a Memorial Service will follow at 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ohio Health Hospice, c/o Ohio Health Foundation, PO Box 60001, Columbus, OH 43218.
