Marsha Jayne Brackman, 77, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2022 with her family by her side. She was born to loving parents, the late Gene and Jean Ritter, on July 1, 1945 in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was the second oldest of four siblings and affectionately referred to as Jayne by many in her family. She was a nurturer from the start, often-times caring for her younger brother and sister while her parents worked. She graduated from St. Mary’s in 1963. It was during high school when she met the love of her life, Al Brackman. Marsha and Al wed immediately after High School on March 14, 1964 and went on to have three children. Al and Marsha eventually left Cincinnati and relocated to Chicago, Columbus, and eventually Aiken, SC. After 53 years of marriage, Al passed away and Marsha moved back to Ohio to be closer to her children. She spent the last five years of her life spending time with family.
Marsha had beautiful brown eyes and a smile that could light up a room. She was funny, loving, patient, and wise. She was the kindest woman, always polite and gracious towards everyone she met. Her quiet strength was always evident; seemingly able to stay grounded with her head down and weather any storm that she faced. Her children fondly remember home-cooked family dinners, nearly every night of the week and a huge home-made brunch every Sunday after church. Her children remember less fondly Marsha’s appreciation for them doing chores at a young age. She was known to pull up a stool to the sink so very little kids could help with the dishes, and you better bet that those beds were made every day! She loved making her house a home and had an incredible eye for design. Marsha was a real beauty, with both of her girls having memories of being in awe as they would often watch her get ready before a big night out with Al. Marsha worked different jobs throughout her life, at times staying home to care for her children and when necessary, working in different ways to support her family. It was later in life when she hit her stride professionally as a realtor in Aiken, SC where she met with great success. Marsha and Al loved to travel, with Hilton Head being their favorite vacation destination but they also traveled to Mexico, Hawaii, and many other beautiful places. Marsha lived a good life and was loved by so many. Not only was she the mother to Greg, Beth, and Cathy and wife to Al but she was also a beloved grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, cousin, and neighbor. We will forever miss her and will never get past this loss, however we will continue to move forward, always carrying her spirit with us.
Marsha is survived by her children, Greg Brackman, Beth Brackman (Patrick O’Brien), Cathy (Greg) Davis, and her four grandchildren, Max, Amanda, Fletcher, and Lila Jayne. A memorial service will be held on October 1, 2022 at 10:30 am, located at First Community Church, 3777 Dublin Rd. Columbus, Oh 43221. A gathering of friends and family will follow at 4600 Astral Dr. Hilliard, OH 43026. In lieu of flowers, Marsha’s family would like to ask that a donation be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at https://www.alz.org/.
