Ruth was born March 27, 1936, in Tracy City, Tennessee, to the late Elbert O'Neal and Dora Lea (Braden) O'Neal. Ruth celebrated 63 years of marriage with her husband Weldon on October 25, 2021. Ruth worked at Weber's Health Foods in Cleveland, Ohio for 16 years and then retired from Kroger in 2011. She was a dedicated member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church for over 50 years serving her church as a deaconess, Women's Ministries team member, and a Sabbath School teacher. Ruth and Weldon also cared for many foster children in need of a loving home.
Some of Ruth's favorite things included reading, walking, cooking, and welcoming everyone into her home. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
She is survived by her husband Weldon Hampton, her son Keith (Rocio) Hampton, her daughters Cynthia Howard and Melissa (Timothy) O'Neill; along with grandchildren Karisa (Ian) Engle, Luke Howard, Rachel Howard, Chloe O'Neill, great grandson Anthony Engle, her sister Christine Mosley, and several nieces and nephews. Ruth is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Kenneth O'Neal, and her son-in-law Daniel Howard.
Visitation will be held Friday, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Services will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the Schoedinger Funeral Services - Worthington Chapel, 6699 N. High Street, Worthington, Ohio 43085. Private graveside services will be held for the family at Kingwood Memorial Park, Lewis Center, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations in Ruth's name be directed to the Eastwood Seventh-day Adventist Church.
16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus, we shall always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore comfort one another with these words.
1 Thessalonians 4:16-18
