Joyce S Harris

Joyce Sue Harris (Jenkins), 74 of Columbus, Ohio passed away on February 19, 2023 leaving behind her loving husband John Walker Harris II whom she met in the 6th grade at a church youth group and married 54 years ago on November 30, 1968.

Joyce was born on March 15, 1948 to the late Evelyn Ladine and James Orten Jenkins in Warren, Ohio. Joyce was predeceased by her sisters Thelma (Steve) Petiya and Sandra (Stanley) Osborn-Koziel.

She dedicated her life to being a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by her five children, Ladine Harris, John Harris III, Sandy Vance-Strigle (Paul Strigle), Thelma Harris and Mary (Brian) Morton; and grandchildren, Gabriella Harris, Caleb Vance, Noah Vance, Franklin Strigle, Sam Strigle, and Joe Strigle and many nieces and nephews.

She graduated from Warren Harding High School in 1966. After graduation, Joyce started her career as a switchboard operator for Ohio Bell, and later worked for Nationwide Insurance as the Supervisor of Switchboard Operators.

A few of her many accomplishments include building a log home which she and her family lived in for several years, being a scout leader and becoming a Sweet Adeline in the Scioto Valley Chorus.

A celebration of life well lived will be held on Saturday, February 25th. Calling Hours will be from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM and a service will follow at 11:00 AM at Schoedinger East, 5360 East Livingston Ave, Columbus, OH 43232. A luncheon will follow.
