Joseph G. McMillan, age 89, of Worthington, passed away Monday, June 27, 2011. Born in Danville, Ohio, he was the son of the late Ralph Watt and Zora Greer McMillan and older brother of the late Ralph McMillan. Joe is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Jean Irwin; children, David (Tiffany), James, Susan (Rick) Samuel, Robert (Patricia); grandchildren, Brett, Billie Jo Mayo (Larry), Kyle, Kaitlin, Wesley and Shane, great grandchild Corrin Lawrence, sister in-law Pat (John) Kircher, sister in-law Martha McMillan Melvin, many nieces, nephews and cousins. Loved by many, admired by all he will be missed. Joe served in WWII on the USS Rockwall as a Lt.jg commander of landing craft after enlisting in the US Naval Reserve and graduating from Ohio University where on a blind date he 'met the girl he was going to marry'. Saying that he loved the outdoors would be an understatement. Joe was raised on a farm where he learned to value plants, animals, life and nature. He carried those early years forward into the rest of his life, teaching friends and family to fish, hunt, garden and treasure the world around them. Family will receive friends Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at SCHOEDINGER NORTH CHAPEL, 5554 Karl Rd. where a funeral service will be held Friday at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Joe's name to Home Reach Hospice or a charity that assists veterans in need. Online condolences may be made to www.schoedinger.com
