John W. Tabor, age 86, began his heavenly journey on May 29, 2010 from his residence in Columbus, Ohio. He was born June 22, 1923 in Boyertown, Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by his wife Jo-Ann (Pfeifer) Tabor, daughter Marcella Tabor, parents Clara (Spohn) and Charles Tabor II and siblings Charles III Tabor, Helen Tabor, Ethel Grandstaff, Grace Chapman, Leroy Tabor and Kenneth Tabor.
John graduated from South High School in 1942. He then joined the U.S. Army, serving from 1943-46 in New Guinea and the Philippines and was honorably discharged. John was a loving husband and father dedicated to his family. He was a hard working “bread man” for Omar Bakery and was a U.S. Postal letter carrier. He was also dedicated to his church, singing with the choir and working with children as a confirmation teacher. He belonged to the Merion Square Singers and was a member of the American Legion. John was a great lover of history and music. He wrote hymns and songs from the heart. His quiet love, caring and understanding ways will always be cherished.
John will be greatly missed by his children: Richard (Anne) Tabor, Liesa (Steve) Ritter and Tina (Duane) Blackburn; his grandchildren Jericho (Cass) Tabor, Jeffrey (Tracy) Ritter, Sarah (Kevin) Ely, Malcolm (Petra) Tabor, Michael (Jean) Ritter; step grandchildren Thom (Shae) Blackburn and Angela (Mark) Cantwell; 8 great grand children and 10 step great grandchildren; nephew Charles (Janet) Pfeifer; nephew Michael (Carolyn) Tabor; brother Rodney Tabor; “Dutchess” Grace (John) Harding of England and many special friends.
Family & friends may call from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at the SCHOEDINGER EAST CHAPEL, 5360 E. Livingston Ave. On Thursday, June 3rd, his funeral service will be held at Faith Lutheran Church, 730 Collingwood Ave. Family will receive visitors from 10 -10:45 a.m. with the service at 11 a.m. Interment to follow immediately after the service at Green Lawn Cemetery.
