Jess Lewis Swartz

Jess was born in Newark on October 2, 1921 to the late Carl and Pearl Swartz. He passed away Tuesday May 15, 2012 at the Forest View Nursing Home in Zanesville. He was 90.

Jess grew up near Jacksontown where he graduated with the Class of ’39 and was the Valedictorian. He went to serve in the US Navy during WWII of which he had special memories. He returned home and worked his entire life as a farmer. He loved to work with wood, loved baseball and the Cincinnati Reds. He was a very independent man and led a very private life. He was fond of animals, especially dogs, and developed a strong bond with “Hillary” in his later years.

He is survived by his sister Ruby Bergdall of Middletown, Ohio, several nieces and nephews, and his good friends, neighbors and caregivers John and Mariann Holman.
