He was born on January 14, 1927 in Waterford, Ohio. Herman honorably served his country as a radio operator in the Navy during WW II. He retired as a Lieutenant from the Columbus Fire Department in 1985 after 28 years of dedicated service. Herman was a lifetime member of Gender Road Christian Church (DOC) and served in many leadership capacities.
He was preceded in death by parents Samuel and Virginia Cuckler and sister Martha (Dick) Riffle. He married his high school sweetheart and roller skating partner, Elizabeth (Betty), and they have been inseparable for the past 69 years. Besides his loving wife, Herman is survived by daughter Nancy (Fred) Blakeslee, son Donald (Mary Beth), daughter Patricia (Randy) Fisher, grandsons Fred (Cindy), Donald (Lin), Patrick (Kaylee), and Timothy (Emily), great granddaughters Madison and Julia, cousin Eleanor Robinson, and sister-in-law Mary McCarrell.
Visitation will be held 2-4 and 6-8 on Monday, May 13, 2013 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST CHAPEL, 1051 E. Johnstown Rd. (at Beecher Rd.), Gahanna, OH. Friends and family will depart the funeral home at 10 AM on Tuesday for a graveside service at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, followed by a memorial service at 12 Noon at Gender Road Christian Church, 5336 Gender Rd. with Reverends John Romig and Kay McGlinchey officiating.
