Herbert Williams

Herbert Allen "Sonny" Williams, age 92, of Columbus, died Saturday, November 20, 2021 at his home with family by his side. He was born in Wheeling, West Virginia on December 9, 1928, the son of the late Herbert and Katherine "Katie" (Irwin) Williams. Sonny retired as a purchasing agent with Rockwell International following 29 years of service. Following his retirement, he was a ranger with the Metro Parks Golf Course for 20 years. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Helen Louise (McKay) Williams; son, Robert A. Williams; daughter, Kathy Williams (Mark) Marchese; daughter-in-law, Monica Ritchey Herron; beloved grandchildren, Cherise Williams (Daniel) Sheehan, Matthew Marchese and Andria Marchese (Travis Murray) and great grandchildren, Makayla McCarty-Williams and Dylan Sheehan, cousins, other relatives and many special friends. Besides his parents, Sonny was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Maxine Williams. Veteran U.S. Army serving with the 28th General Hospital Division. He was a graduate of West Virginia University with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, where he belonged to the Alumni Association and the Mountaineer Athletic Club. He also belonged to the Betty Brewers Angels and tutored at Beechwood Elementary School for over ten years. In his spare time, Sonny loved to spend it with his family, golfing and traveling. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 pm Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 530 McNaughten Road, Columbus, OH 43213, where family will receive friends from 11:30-1:00.
