Janet Cutler, age 63, currently of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2014, after a brave battle with cancer. She was born January 1, 1951, in Drumore, PA to the late Jesse and Elaine (Carson) Cutler. Janet and her four sisters, Joan, Jeanne, Brenda and Carol, enjoyed growing up on the family farm, where she developed grit and a deep appreciation of the outdoors. Janet loved skiing in the New England states, pushing herself on miles-long runs, and, more recently, water aerobics. She also enjoyed playing field hockey, both in high school and college, and was routinely one of the high scoring players. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Painting and Sculpture from Bridgewater College in Bridgewater, VA (1968-1972). Janet and her husband, Victor, met while she was pursuing her Master's Degree in Fine Arts at West Virginia University (1977-1980). In a typically smooth move, Victor, an undergraduate student at the time, attempted to provide artistic guidance on a painting of her family farm Janet was working on. Of course, this is when Janet let Victor know that she was, in fact, a graduate student. This introduction stuck, and on November 16, 1984, Janet and Victor eloped to Eureka, California, to get married, with their dear friend Barbara serving as both maid of honor and best man. Janet savored life on the beach when she resided in California for six-plus years before coming to central Ohio to start a family. She had worked as a wildlife illustrator at the Smithsonian Institute, a criminal evidence illustrator for a criminal investigation agency, and an art instructor at a youth residential treatment facility, among other positions. Janet was most recently employed by Priority Designs, where she created industrial design prototypes through sculpture with her creative family of coworkers. She is survived by her loving husband, Victor Davis; beloved daughter Kahla Davis; sisters Joan Ferguson, Jeanne Fox, Brenda Cutler and Carol (Martin) Berthold; mother-in-law Nona Davis; brothers and sisters-in-law, Paul Davis, Angela Peacock, Philip (Shari) Davis and Felicia Bush; nieces, nephews, extended family and close friends. Those who knew her best will miss her gentle wit, her open warmth, and, of course, her ability to engage even the surliest stranger in delightful conversation. Per Janet's wishes, there will be no public services. Cremation entrusted to Schoedinger East Chapel. Those who wish may contribute to the International Child Art Foundation, the American Cancer Society, or a charity of your choice in her memory.
