

Doris Nell Singer, 91 of Columbus, Ohio passed away at home on Tuesday, November 10, 2020 in North Carolina, with her family by her side. She faced long term illness with grace and dignity. She fought bravely to the end and is now at peace. Doris was born in White County, Saltee, Georgia on October 10, 1929, daughter of late George and Mary Lou Jarrett.
Doris worked in Marzettti Restaurant. She learned to cook from her parents and was able to share many recipes with those she loved. Doris served her community, feeding the homeless, praying for sick and shut in and devoting much of her time to her Church. When she moved to North Carolina, she cared for her late husband Cale E. Singer. They were married for 60 years prior to his passing. She continued to tell stories of how he was the best man that walked this earth. Not only cause he showered her with gifts and love, because he was a man of God. Doris helped raise three of her great grandchildren in North Carolina. She continued to love to cook, sew and help teach grace and poise to the women around her. Doris loved to dance, her father said, "Doris, you'd rather dance than eat." She told many stories of her past, shined light into the future and always put God first in everything she did.
Doris is survived by her children Lucinda (Roger)Blake , and Michael (Sylvia) Singer. She was a proud grandmother to Roger Blake II, Shayla Treadwell, and Kiana (Benjamin) Missick and great grandmother to Taylan, Tatiana, Keirsten, Alexandar, Madison, Olivia and Aria. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Doris was preceded in death by her siblings Annie V. Ramsey, Margaret Rhodes, Emma Jean Carter, Bessie Mays, Mary Lou Jackson, Floreance Jarrett, James L and George R. Jarrett. She was also preceded in death by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
The thing that brought Doris joy was helping those in need. She gave wisdom and advice to many women and men. Many would call her on the phone when they were sick to seek help or advice. She sold Unker's salve to thousands.
2020 is a hard year for many and towards the end she did not remember much but family was able to catch a smile in telling her the new President and Vice President Elect; that she helped win. She knew what this county faced and what long roads we had to travel, her look and smirk will tell us to pray and trust in God.
Doris loved traveling to The Ohio State Football games with her late husband. She continued watching Buckeye football with family to the very end.

Service will be held at Schoedinger Midtown Chapel Columbus, Ohio on Saturday, November 14th, 2020. Due to COVID 19 only 25 family members will be able to attend services. Web casting will be available at the time of the service. Interment to follow at Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers charitable contributions may be made in Doris's name to Genessee Avenue Church of Christ, 1889 Genessee Ave. , Columbus, OH 43211.
