Christine Ann (Koerner) Yore was born April 21, 1947 in Port Clinton, OH to Marjorie (Bahnsen) and Charles Koerner. A proud member of the Upper Arlington High School Class of 1965, she is survived by 2 children who also graduated from UAHS, Amy (Jon Domachowski) Yore of West Liberty, OH, and James (Erin) Yore of Longwood, FL. Their father, Joe Yore, predeceased her. Her 4 grandchildren, Dylan & Amanda Domachowski and Carson & Shelby Yore, called her Koko, reviving the nickname her grandparents said she gave herself. She is survived by 2 brothers, Charles (Ted) (Nan) Koerner and Dan (LaDonna) Dusing who called her Sis. She was Aunt Chris to 8 nieces and nephews and their children. Her neighbors and life-long friends will miss her dearly.
Chris was a stay-at-home mom when her children were small, helping in her husband’s trucking company as needed. She later worked for the director of food services for Independent School District 834 (Washington County, MN) and as secretary to the vice principal of Stillwater (MN) High School. After a return to Columbus, OH, she worked for many years as legal secretary and office manager for Attorney Lewis Witherspoon, then as document custodian for First City Bank. She retired from the mortgage department of The Arlington Bank.
Chris was most active as a volunteer in the 80s and 90s, when she served as UAHS Band Booster Secretary and got involved with fundraising for Children’s Hospital through TWIG 127 and as a concession stand captain at the Memorial Golf tournament. Her enthusiasm drew in many and sparked a retirement passion for her uncle who got on the Tournament Marshall’s circuit and traveled to a variety of golf tournaments. Chris loved painting and other home maintenance activities but was most at home in her garden, where she could be found any day the weather was good and many days when it was not. It was an outlet for her creativity that often generated long to-do lists for her family. Chris loved her dogs as well, from Airedale Mopsey, who grew up with the kids, to lab mix Casey, who greeted the grandchildren, and Joey the Japanese Chin, who at age 13 recently delighted Chris by learning to slide the screen door open all by himself.
Life did not always cooperate with Chris. She missed out on the joy of attending her grandchildren’s high school graduations due to the coronavirus pandemic and settled for pictures. Chris had COVID in 2021 and although she recovered, it may have tipped the balance in her last year of life. A 2-time cancer survivor living with type II diabetes and other health conditions, she died June 21, 2022 after a fall at her home in Upper Arlington.
