Cathryn Marie Henson (Nee Wynd) passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 6, 2023 at her home in Pickerington, Ohio. Her children were by her side as she met our Lord. Cathy is survived by her loving husband and devoted stepfather to her children, Ralph Henson, with whom she just celebrated 40 years of marriage. Also surviving are sons Michael (Joyce) Fugate , daughter Stacy Sober, son Sean (Anneke) Sober , and son Stephen (Chancy) Sober. Her grandchildren were the love of her life. She was proud of each and every one of them: Jonathan & Ashley Fugate, Austin Montgomery, Joshua and Ella Sober. Cathy was preceded in death by her brother Walter Wynd and daughter in-law Ruby Fugate.
Raised in Columbus, graduating from South High School in 1956, Cathy was the big sister to Walter Wynd (deceased), Ronni Wynd and John Wynd. Later in life she formed a forever loving friendship with her Stepsister Nancy Johnson Dixon (deceased). Her parents, all deceased, were Marie (Easterling) and Stepfather Bill Johnson; and, Richard Wynd.
A huge smile and a “Well hi honey!” greeting was Cathy, who knew no stranger. Her siblings remember her sense of humor as she pulled little tricks on them. She loved airplanes so volunteered to do errands for mom, always including in the errand a quick visit to Columbus Airport to watch the planes come in and take-off. This passion for airplanes resulted in her becoming a flight attendant for United Airlines while living in New York City. One of her favorite flights was serving on the New York Yankee’s flights with Mickey Mantle.
A diverse life filled with talents, skills, humor, dreams and unbinding attention to the world and its peoples, Cathy could sing, dance, play piano, cook, and knew American Politics better than some politicians. Her heart was big Cathy had many passions, the New York Times daily crossword puzzle and word scramble, eating out, dark chocolate and endless all night card games with friends and family.
Thank you and God Bless nieces, nephews, grandkids, and everyone who travelled, loved ,and supported Cathy and the family during these difficult times. A special thanks to the staff at Riverside Methodist Hospital and the Kobacker House Hospice Team.
