Carol M Engler

She was a lifelong resident of the state of Ohio. She was born in Akron on January 9, 1948 to the late Leo "Mox" Engler and Mildred Koogle Engler.

She received her bachelor's and master's degrees from The University of Akron, where she was named that institution's Outstanding Graduate of the College of Education in 2005. She earned her Ph.D. at Kent State University.

A 30-year veteran of the Akron Public Schools, Dr. Engler served as an administrator, counselor, and teacher. During that time, she received the Outstanding Assistant Principal of the Year Award from The Ohio Association of Secondary School Administrators (OASSA). She was also president of the Akron Public Schools Secondary Administrators' Association.

After retiring from public education, she began her second career as a university professor. At the time of her death, she was an associate professor of educational leadership at Ashland University where she had been employed since 2002.

During her many years in higher education, Dr. Engler was founder and Executive Director of the Ohio Council of Professors of Educational Administration (OCPEA). She also published numerous articles and two books. She delivered over 35 state, national, and international presentations on the subject of leadership.

A futurist, she often said that: "I have been studying trends since I was 15 years old and talking about them for only the last 10 years." As a result of her research into the future of a global society, she originated the concept of empathic education, and became a consultant to technology companies and state governments on the topic of technological globalization. Her book, The First Turning: A Vision of America and a World at Peace, was published in 2014. The book addresses the impact of technology on all the systems of the world.

She leaves behind numerous family members, colleagues, neighbors, and friends from around the world. She was especially proud of her grandsons, Jonathan and Noah Strebe of Mt. Sterling, Ohio.

Visitation will be on Saturday July 22, 2017 from 1-2pm at the Schoedinger Worthington Chapel, Service 6699 N. High St. Worthington, OH 43085, where a Memorial Service will begin at 2pm

In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made in Carol's name to The James Cancer Hospital c/o The Ohio State University Foundation 1480 West Lane Avenue, Columbus, Ohio 43221.
