Bernard Adam Warner Sr.

Bernard was born on February 7, 1924 in Summerfield, Ohio to the late Henry F. and Philomena "Minnie" E. Warner. Shortly after graduating from Summerfield High School, he was drafted into the United States Army, and reported to Camp Hood in Texas. He was trained to drive, operate, and repair battle tanks. He served in the European Theatre of World War II with the Third Army, 818 Battalion, attached to the 5th Division. Starting from Normandy beach in France, and incurring many skirmishes along the way, including major battles (Metz, and The Battle of the Bulge), he finally finished his combat duty in Czechoslovakia.

Returning to the United States after the war, he met Margaret Borghese who was to be the love of his life. They married on June 17th, 1950. They were married at St Dominic Catholic Church and settled in Columbus, Ohio. Together, Bernard and Margaret raised six children.

Bernard was a long-standing member of St. James the Less Catholic Church and an avid volunteer from grounds keeping (assisting Fred Lentz), helping out on bingo nights, to cooking corn at the church festivals, and ushering at Mass. There was little that he would not do to help his parish, and remained selfless in that regard, until his failing health prevented him from continuing.

While working at several factories early in his career after returning from the war, he settled and found a work home at Western Electric until his eventual retirement. He was a thirty plus year employee, and was proud to brandish a gold topped pen that was given to him by Western Electric for his perfect attendance while under their employment.

He always spoke lovingly about his parents and siblings whom he adored, and upon his demise, was the last surviving child. In addition to his parents, Bernard is preceded in death by his sisters, Clara, Edna, Martha; and his brothers, Clyde, Raymond, Gilbert, Earl, Joseph and Alfred.

Bernard is survived by his loving wife, Margaret (Borghese) Warner; his children, David (Janet), Bernard Jr., Michael (Sandy), Ronald, daughters Theresa (Scott) Kessler, and Lisa (Brian) Sahr; his grandchildren, Brandon Kessler, Jared (Amanda) Warner, Heath Warner, Lindsey ( Matt) McCaw, April Warner; his great-grandson, Remington Michael McCaw; and many nieces and nephews.

Family will accept friends on Wednesday, January 24, 2024 from 4:00pm to 7:00 pm at Advantage by Schoedinger North, 5554 Karl Rd. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, January 25, 2024 at St. James the Less Catholic Church at 1652 Oakland Park Ave. Entombment at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Columbus, Ohio.
