Bernard C. Erwin, 78, of Columbus, Ohio and formerly of Delbarton, West Virginia, passed away Tuesday, October 4, 2011. He was born December 30, 1932 in Lando Mines, West Virginia. Bernard was a graduate of Burch High School in Delbarton.
He served in the U.S. Navy. Bernard married Betty Protuck and moved to Columbus, Ohio in the early 1960’s. Bernard was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Columbus and was a huge West Virginia and St. Louis Cardinals fan. Bernard loved visiting back home to West Virginia. He will be remembered for being a loving, family oriented man. He advised “You have to take life as it comes.”
Preceded in death by wife of 46 years, Betty; parents, Van and Rebecca (Jude) Erwin; brothers, Charles and Robie Erwin; sisters, Dixie and Anna Mae; brothers-in-law, Ed Calton, Tichon, Harry, and Robert Protuck; and sister-in-law, Pam Erwin.
Bernard will be missed by his loving children, Nancy Billingsley, B.C. (Kim) Erwin, Mary (Mark) Young, Linda (Ed) Schoonover, and Rebecca (Will) Merz; grandchildren, Terra, Leslie, Leann, Anthony, Blake, Gunner, and Cassandra; great-grandchildren, Mark, William, David, Camden, Makayla, David Michael, Bryce, and Stevan Billingsley; brothers, Brady (Janice), Bruce (Pat), and Van Jr. (Earlene), Hershel (Lucille), Doug (Karen), and Scott (Anita) Erwin; sisters, Audra Calton, Toni (Michael) Cozmyk, and Donna Sue (Ira) Simpkins; brothers-in-law, John (June) Peck and Bill (Ava) Peck and Rush Hatfield; sisters-in-law, Sheila Erwin and Margaret Ann (Dennis) Smith; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
