A long time ago (roughly 77 years, although she swore it was only 39), on a mountaintop far, far away (if by far you mean Gauley Mountain in West By God Virginia), Barbara Lou Hinkle burst into a world completely unprepared for her awesomeness.
Growing up near the night border between Saturday and Sunday Road in Ramsey led to her lifelong fascination with all things spooky and weird. She loved scary stories (her favorite author was her son Larry, followed closely by some guy named Stephen King); Bigfoot; aliens and UFOs; and Skinwalker Ranch. Of course, she loved Jesus the most, but there’s nothing spooky and/or weird about that.
Barbara (not Barb and God forbid you ever used her middle name Lou, which I know I did at the beginning of this but what’s she going to do about it now? Oh God, she’s gonna haunt me, isn’t she?) had a lot of jobs (babysitter, cleaner, electronics tech), but being a mother was probably her favorite, depending on when she was asked and who was doing the asking.
She was world-renowned for telling you what you needed to hear, not giving an “F” whether you liked it or not, and her baked beans.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband Larry, and survived by her sons Larry (Vanessa) and Doug (Amber), daughter Debi (Mark), grandsons Trevor (Leigha) and Aaron, and grandoggos Frankie, Mollie, Dorie, Belle, and Akila.
She will be dearly missed by all who knew her, and we can’t help but feel sorry for those who didn’t.
Goodbye Mom, we love you more.
