Alma Montano Saddam, age 85, of Upper Arlington, born in Manila, Philippines, died peacefully on Monday, September 25, 2023 at Kobacker House. Preceded in death by beloved parents, Tomas and Jesusa Montano Saddam; loving sister, Linda Montano; and cherished niece, Leigh Ann Jordan. Survived by endeared sister, Aida Montano; nephews, Thomas Jordan (Julie) and Michael Jordan (Suzanne); and niece, Sumalee Montano Zimmerman (Craig); grandnephews and grandniece, Connor Jordan (Allison Wohlert, fiancé), Leighanne Jordan, Brandon Jordan, Alden Jordan, Greyson Jordan, and Jack Zimmerman; and many cousins. Alma came to America in 1957 after graduating from the University of the Philippines with a bachelor's degree in home economics major in nutrition. She was a staff dietitian at the Ohio State University Hospital and Yale University Hospital. She went back home briefly to teach at the University of the Philippines. Upon her return, she got her Master's and Ph. D. degrees in dietetics and human nutrition from the Ohio State University. After 37 years with the Ohio State University as a dietitian, Extension Nutrition Specialist, professor in the Department of Human Nutrition, and Dietetic Internship Director, she retired in 2002 and was awarded Emeritus Status. She was a loyal Buckeye. As a retiree, she gave lectures on Nutrition for the Elderly at the Upper Arlington Senior Center. She was a member of various boards, including those of the Upper Arlington Commission on Aging, the Multiethnic Advocates for Cultural Competence (MACC), the Asian Festival Corporation, and the Philippine American Society of Central Ohio, and a life member of Ohio State University Retirees Association. She enjoyed traveling and learning about other peoples' cultures. She took pride in having traveled to many countries in all 7 continents. She treasured her numerous friends and colleagues in Columbus, other Ohio cities, many states, and in the Philippines. She was loved for her friendliness, generosity, and kind heart. Her strong faith in God sustained her all her life and at the end of her life. Family will receive friends from 3:00-7:00pm on Monday, October 2, 2023 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST, 1740 Zollinger Road, Columbus, Ohio 43221. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00am on Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at St. Agatha Catholic Church, 1860 Northam Road, Upper Arlington, Ohio 43221. Private Entombment will be held at Resurrection Cemetery.
