He graduated with a Bachelors degree from Brockport State Teachers College and obtained his Masters Degree from Syracuse University. Al was a honorably discharged veteran of the U.S. Army of Occupation in Japan.
After his teaching career, he began what would become a 31-year career with the United Stated Trotting Association where he retired in 1993. His career took him to harness racing tracks throughout the nation.
Al met his life’s love Nancy and they were married in September 1992 and made their home in the Hilliard and Dublin Ohio area. Al was known for his entertaining sense of humor, vivid memory and talent for story-telling, and for being a voracious reader with a fondness for historical works. He also loved hunting, and fishing in Venice FL. He will be missed, especially by his best friend and wife of 31 years.
He is predeceased by parents, Albert and Lucille Buongiorne, Holley, NY; brother, Robert; and sisters, Lenore Knapp and Sandra. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Nancy; stepsons, Andrew Kaufmann and Anton Kaufmann (Liz); stepdaughters, Cindy Kaufmann and Linda (Kaufmann) Stitt; as well as grandchildren.
Graveside service will be held at 12 PM on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at Kingwood Memorial Park in the Chapel of Light, 8230 Columbus Pike (U.S. Route 23), Lewis Center, Ohio 43035.
